Therapies:
We are thankful to have a wonderful team of therapists who are all familiar with PWS and work together in Asher's best interest. All of our therapy services come through Illionis Early Intervention program.
Speech Therapy
Asher has been in speech since he was about 4 months old. The primary focus of speech is to work on feeding issues, understanding, and of course, speech! We have it in-home, once a week.
Occupational Therapy
OT also happens once a week, in our home. Asher works on fine motor skills and towards developmental milestones.
Physical Therapy
PT is HARD work! Like speech and OT, our PT comes into our home once a week. She works mainly on helping Asher achieve his developmental milestones, particularly related to gross motor and locomotion.
Nutritional Therapy
We meet with our nutritionist once a month, on average. It is helpful to make sure he is getting the appropriate amount of calories and hydration. Our therapist also helps determine Asher's eating schedule and monitors his weight.
Pool Therapy
Asher has pool therapy once a week at a clinic. Pool therapy is another form of physical therapy and is very challenging for Asher. He started pool right around 24 months of age.
Speech Playgroup
Again, all in the name of school readiness! We started this group recently (Feb, 2012) at a local therapeutic center. It provides structured play with kids close to Asher's age. The primary focus is speech & O.T., but the peer involvement is my favorite part.
